ブラウン：はい、いただきます。
田中(たなか)：ビールを二本(にほん)としゃぶしゃぶをお願(ねが)いします。デザートはメロンがいいです。
ウェイトレス：はい、わかりました。

<< Dialogue: English >> Situation: Mr. Tanaka has invited Mr. Brown to a meal. They are in a restaurant looking at the menu and conversing.
Tanaka : Excuse me, could we see the menu, please? (lit. "Please show us the menu.")
Waitress: Certainly, sir. Here you are.
Tanaka: What would you like to drink?
Brown: I'd like some beer.
Tanaka: As for dinner, would you like sukinaki or (would you like) syabusyabu?
Brown: I had sukiyaki last week, so I'd like syabusyabu.
Tanaka: After the meal, how about some coffee.
Brown: Yes, I'd love some.
Tanaka: Two bottles of beer and some syabusyabu, please. For dessert, we'd like some melon.
Waitress: I see.
□ Mr. Tanaka and Mr. Brown had a meal in a restaurant. They drank beer and ate syabusyabu. After the meal they had coffee.

    3. When offering a choice between two possiblities, the key word is replaced word is replaced and the predicate is repeated. Note the difference between this and the usual English construction.
    例(れい)：京都(きょうと)に行(い)きますか、大阪(おおさか)に行(い)きますか。"Are you going to Kyoto or (are you going to) Osaka?"
  3. すき焼(や)きは先週食(せんしゅうた)べましたから

    4. Although すき焼(や)き is the object, it is also the topic and therefore takes the particle は.
